Walled City Books is the online presence of Foyle Books of 12 Magazine Street in Derry/Londonderry. Foyle Books began life as The Wee Bookshop in Bond Street in the Waterside area of the city in 1980. It was established by Ken Thatcher. In 1987 it dropped the “Wee” from its name on moving to Distillery Brae. In 1989 the shop moved into bigger premises on Spencer Road, changing its name to Book Bargains. Art Byrne joined the business and in January 1991 the shop changed its name to Foyle Books and migrated across the river to the old walled city. Art left the city in July 2013 and went to live in Galway City. He still maintains an interest in the shop.
